Is It Worth It?

When we find ourselves on a particular path that we've devoted a great deal of time and energy to, and the future being what it is, always uncertain, tarot can provide some valuable feedback that we can use to decide "is it worth it?"  In fact, there is a specific tarot card for just this dilemma, the 7 of Pentacles:

Cosmic Tarot by Norbert LoscheUS Games 1986

This card represents those moments in a project, a relationship, or any goal process where we begin to have second thoughts after already having started.  We may have even seen some progress, some reward or at least the promise of it, but we're starting to tire of the work involved.  We may not see enough progress for the amount of energy we've put in.  Seven is a dreamer's number, full of what if's, possibilities, fantasies, and hopes.  Pentacles represent the earth, the solid ground under our feet, things we can touch and own and give and take.  It's not always about money, but it can be.  Depending on the goal, a certain relationship for example, it could mean a physical reality coming to be such as moving in together or some other show of commitment that you can see and touch, not mere words or promises.  Here is that moment where we are weighing the pros and cons of continuing forward with our plans and efforts.  This can be harder than starting something because when one has already invested time, energy, and financial resources, it can be extremely difficult to change course.

Other cards in a reading can give important feedback for us to use when making this decision.  The reading itself cannot and should not make your decision for you.  Only you can do that.  In reading for someone in this situation, even if the other cards show some unpleasant experiences, I always communicate that sometimes we have to get to that really tough place before we know for sure what to do.  Or the cards may indicate a struggle to come before a success.  So we have to be careful not to jump to conclusions based on seemingly "negative" cards surrounding this dilemma. For example, we might see this sequence:

Original Rider Waite Smith

It appears there may be a tangible setback and a time of material change and struggle, missed opportunities for success or assistance, leading to some disappointment, loss, and regret, but then followed by a period of recovery and healing with clear signs you are now on the way to your goal.  In this case, I would say don't give up when the going gets tough.  You will come through to the other side having learned important lessons and with a clearer vision of where you are going, even though you will not have reached your goal, you will see what you are supposed to do.  This still doesn't say whether the person will ultimately choose to continue or abandon the current project, but it lays out the likely progression which leads to knowing what to do.

In other readings there may be a very clear message to dramatically change direction.  For example we might see something like this:

DruidCraft Tarot  © 2004 by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm.
The 10 of Swords tells us it's done, there's no more that can be accomplished in the way you have been approaching things.  The 8 of Cups shows an abandoning of a way of being that has become emotionally draining, unsatisfying, or stale.  The Ace of Pentacles shows a new opportunity that has much more promise.  So in this scenario I would urge my client to consider other options and to critically evaluate their current situation for signs that letting go and moving on would be the right choice for them.

This kind of objective feedback is extraordinarily helpful to one in the middle of a quandry over that assessment of whether something truly is worth seeing through or not.  We're often given generic cheerleading advise to keep pushing, never give up, anything that's worth doing is worth giving your all, but sometimes that advice may not work for the specific situation you're dealing with.  We also have to take into consideration our own patterns.  Do we tend to start things and not finish, or only go halfway and give up?  Or do we have a history of holding on to something long past its expiry date?  Maybe it's time to change that.

  1. Hi there,
I Just ended up on your blogspot again after a few years. I'm very happy I found it again.

And I don't know if this is a coincidence but lately I was trying to find the meaning of this card: 7 of Pentacles. As I Just had to think about a tarot reading I had 2 years a go. Yes I know it has been 2 years a go. But I Just had to think about it. As back then I couldn't really understand the meaning of it in the reading I had back then.

Maybe you Could confirm the meaning for me?

Back at the reading 2 years a go I asked about a man I met 5 years earlier when I was a 18 year old teenager. And I fell deep deeply in love with him..unfortunately my parents ,sister and friend didn't want me to get with him. And so they ' hired' my friend back then to tell them everything that was currently happening in my Life, who I liked etc. But I didn't know that this was going on back then. I found out about 3 years later. As I re- thought certain situations etc and had a confession of my friend her mom. Admitting that her daughter was telling everything on to my parents.
So this hit me pretty hard. And really hurted my feelings. Because I really regret that I didn't go ahead in the past and talk to the man. But I was extremely insecure back then.

But I'd like to know the meaning of this card in the reading I had.
I asked the lady I had the reading at: What are his feelings for me?
And then this card popped up.
I remember her saying that the man is entering a new phase and other stuff but can't remember it anymore. And that he had nothing against me.
But is the meaning of the card she mentioned to me correctly? As I thought it wasn't all that clearly to me.

My feelings for him back then expressed in a tarot card was: Page of Swords.
As I wanted to track him down.
I made a kind of attempt. But didn't think it through completely. And this person didn't really help me much.

And once again lately I have been wondering about him. I Just can't seem to forget about him. Even though I have liked other men afterwards after a few years etc. But it absolutely does not compare to the feeling I had when I fell for him.
And till this day I wonder why I can't forget about him. And if I end up liking a man, why the feelings aren't as intense and euphoric as back then with him.
There are other personal stuff that have happened in my Life in the years after. But I never dated any men or anything. So I am still single. As I haven't encountered anyone else that made me think: He matches me.

Do you have any advice for me?
Because I'm planning on to get a reading again some somewhere this year. And was adviced by 2 of my friends to really try to track the man down. Because I Just can't forget him. But this is also because I believe things shouldn't have gone this way.

Also I have encountered a co- worker from him on the streets 2 years a ago a few months prior to this reading.
I did not recognize the co- worker back then. I do think he recognized me. He seemed shocked. ( I have gained a lot of weight in the years after. Because of medicines) So maybe that's why he was shocked . Or Just shocked because he encountered me again after 5 years.
I did not realise back then in the moment that it was his co- worker. I also regret that. Because I Could have asked him about the guy I liked.
I Just realised that I have encountered the co-worker, this year on the 27th of June. Because his face popped up in my head at night and I Just knew I saw him before but I couldn't place it back then. And this year I could.
But I also wonder why he didn't approach me. Het was not alone , neither was I. I had an older male friend with me.

I'd love to get some kind of advice and explanation on my reading.

    Greetings from Holland.

  2. Hello in Holland :) I would be happy to read for you. My practice is explained further on my About My Readings page (link is up top here) and the instructions for purchasing a tarot reading from her are here: https://78notes.blogspot.com/p/tarot-readings.html

I wish you the best on your quest for understanding.

  3. Hey Ginny! Thanks for responding back.
I'd be very interested in having a reading by you.
Though I will wait a few more days because I'm waiting to get an e-mail back from someone.

I was also wondering if you were able to do 2 things:

    1. Can you figure out the name of someone I'm ask asking about in the tarot reading? Or anything close to that?

And can you draw a face of the person I'm asking about?
As in do any faces of people come up in your head during a tarot reading?

  4. Tropical Domacasse, it sounds like you are looking for a psychic reader. Some psychic readers use tarot cards, but not all tarot card readers offer psychic services. Tarot card readings are mostly symbolic and rarely produce things such as names or faces -- except through a psychic flash the reader may receive while reading. That has happened to me, but it's not every reading. I would suggest seeking out a psychic reader for the information you are asking for.

  5. Hi Ginny.

    Thank you for your advice.

I have found a psychic reader through an aqcuintance.
She will try to help me out.

In the future I might still purchase a reading by you.
:) thanks a lot for your time.
